Q: |
Who provides the financial support for the Weston Awards for Excellence in Education? |
| |
A: |
The awards are generously supported by The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, a Canadian charitable foundation. The Weston family is probably best known for its ownership of Loblaws and the Real Canadian Superstore, and for its contribution to projects such as The Weston Family Innovation Centre at the Ontario Science Centre, but they have a long tradition of commitment to children and education that began with Garfield Weston. This commitment is reflected in the Garfield Weston Awards for Excellence in Education. |

Q: |
How do you select the schools to invite to the awards? |
| |
A: |
To identify the schools to be honoured the Fraser Institute thoroughly analyzes the historical results data of each school included in either the Institute’s annual Report Card on Elementary Schools or its annual Report Card on Secondary Schools in each of the four participating provinces. This analysis determines a short-list of approximately 30 schools for each award category. Only schools that are rated in the Fraser Institute's most recent edition of the Report Card and have received a rating in each of the last six reported school years are eligible for consideration. |
