What should a teacher do when she disagrees
with how her school board is doing things?

Last spring, elementary teacher Kathryn Sihota, refused to administer a district-wide reading test to her grade 3 class as directed by her principal.

A September 25^th story in the Vancouver Sun newspaper provided some background. “Kathryn Sihota, a long-time teacher, said she has questioned the value of standardized tests for many years, but it was the tears of a student who had to write the test that convinced her to take a stand. ‘I'd never made a student cry before -- ever,’ said Sihota, who teaches Grades 2 and 3 at Millstream elementary in Sooke district. ‘it killed me to do that [especially for] something I don't believe in.’"
